A green beam laser level
is more accurate than a red laser level, but this accuracy may be reduced drastically due to setting errors and some errors associated with human mishandling. From setting the laser level out of range to improper calibration, there is an array of setting issues that can reduce the effectiveness of your laser level. You need to pay attention to your green laser level settings and test them before you start using them on real jobs. The following are common laser level setting errors you must avoid.
Setting Your Laser Level Out of Range
If your laser level is set at a range outside its maximum, it can cause faulty readings. For instance, if you set the laser range out +/-5 degrees out of the range, its rotating laser prism may tilt to one side and try to reposition itself. In the process of trying to reposition, there will be a time out, and you will have to reposition the laser to its +/-5 degrees range and try to measure again.
Keep in mind that you have to turn the laser level off and turn it on again to re-adjust its position within its maximum range. In some cases, the laser level may be self-level, but if you don’t use a self-leveling laser, you have to fix this issue yourself.
Wrong Detector Connectivity
This issue may be caused by you or some other factors inherent. Even the best green laser level
sometimes may not detect the laser beam due to some errors in the setting. You must check the batteries in the detector first and see if they are low and need to be recharged.If you are using a rotary laser level, check that the laser level is spinning and beaming. You can use your bare hand to see the beam reflected but never expose your eyes to a beam, and they can cause severe damage. Also, check to see that there is no obstruction on the path of the laser beam. You have to make sure that the laser beam is within its operational range.
The laser may not pick up the beam if you are too close to it; you need to be at least 3 meters away to ensure the laser detects the beam. You must also check that the cover glass is free of dirt; they can block laser projection too.
Calibration Issues
If you believe your laser level is not accurate. Ensure the laser level is positioned well on its tripod if you measure at an elevated angle. Do not press any button for your self-leveling laser to self-level. Wait between 15 and 20 seconds for the laser to project its beam to the target. Remember that the laser level will automatically reset and self-level when you turn it around.
Make sure the beam reaches its target firmly; if not, you might have exceeded its maximum range, and all you will see is a faint reflection on the surface. Despite being the
brightest laser level, the green laser level requires proper calibration and management for utmost accuracy.
