Product prices on website are not the same as the data

I have several Opencart sites but this is a problem I've not had before. I've listed products with their net prices and set the VAT to be added on at 20%
But the prices appearing on the website are completely different. For example: Dremel multitool is inserted at £69.95 but appears on the website as Price: £53.77, Ex Tax: £44.81. I have looked at all the settings to make sure, there's no special offers or discounts set up. It's a complete mystery.
If I change the price, it always does the same. It seems to be a discount of around 35%.

do you have any other extensions that interferes with price calculations? and have you tried turning off taxes and testing to see if it's having the same issues?

Maybe you're entering them as dollar?

system>localization>currencies :: default pound
system>settings>edit store>local>currency :: pound

Are they set to Pound?
