Hi, I am busy designing a new website on localhost I bought a custom theme from Themeforest and everything was working very well, until after I added all the categories and now the OC website is responding very slow, the admin side is fast as usual but the front end is lagging allot, does anyone know what could be effecting the OC website?

theme:
http://themeforest.net/item/clearshop-r ... =luisvelaz

Version:
1.5.5.1

Hi,

at this point in time, 467 categories most of them is sub categories, and I have disabled category count, I also uploaded an extension to disable category count* but there seems to be no change, I also emailed the theme developer just waiting for response.

Change web host
:D

At this point in time its localhost development, on WAMP and as soon as everything is working as we want it to, then I will move over to the staging server that's when other developers would help with certain programs, etc.

but something happened and now the dumy site is rather slow

Well, another reason it's slow on your wamp set up is because of some minor configurations, or your PC might need to be faster. The theme shouldn't contribute to the 'slowness' unless it modified the core files

Hi,
I have kind of the same problem, my front end is not responsive. The back end seems to load normally.
I'm note sure why as it was doing well so far. The host provider told me that my site was asking for too much CPU resources but I'm not sure because, as I said, it was doing well so far, without having change anything.
I think we cant consider my site "heavy" as it only have about 186 categories/subcategories and about 1540 products.

So, I am looking for some professional help in order to optimie my site and figure out what can cause the slowness.

OC version used is 1.5.5.1. Thanks!

Hi @rph

I have already added this program to my Opencart installation "Product Count True Disabling / Speed Up" and its working good, but I have learned the true problem with Opencart is that the tables in the database isn't indexed, my website went from 6-8 seconds load time to 1-3 seconds, here is some links:

Blog (explanation)

Program to build indexes: (its also free)

All the best-

Hi @Joxe

Can you provide your website URL?

And another extension I use is this one:

http://www.opencart.com/index.php?route ... on_id=8561

It is a free cache engine, works pretty well on my site over here: http://dev.beadsforyou.co.za/

The info in the blog post is out of date. Some of the indexes he adds are in OpenCart now. A few others (particularly language_id ones) are useless and may even slow queries down because of low cardinality. The important one is category parent_id and I'd be willing to bet that's where the majority of the speed improvements came from (SQL is very difficult to benchmark properly because of system caching).

And in defense of the community here, the issue was discussed more than a year before the blog post at http://forum.opencart.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=39759 .

Make sure you've disabled product count and the vqmod script is running properly.

Yes, product count is disabled (always ahve been).

I'm no expert in OC but I think I've done it right. Just uploaded the .xml file to the .xml folder.

I really need to fix this as my site is down at the moment :/

That's correct. You would want to check /vqmod/logs/ to see if any error logs are being generated which may cause it to stop functioning.
