Shipping options, Different packaging

Okay quick run up about myself, I am Brite Light LEDs selling automotive car lighting online,

As any car owners on here will know , theres very small push in bulbs , and theres large head light bulbs.

The issue i have is , pricing postage for Royal mail.

for example , a pair of small sidelight bulbs will fit into a letter envelope fine and can be sent as a letter, which costs around £1.60 second class recorded ,

where as sending the same Small item in a packet will cost around £2.60.

the main issue i have is there isnt alot of weight difference between my products its size,

Id like to be charging a lower cost postage for small bulbs in a letter envelope posting,
and for larger bulbs more cost due to size having to send as a packet, falling into a higher cost with royal mail.

To make it more clear , a large bulb can weight the same as a small sidelight bulb for example, how ever the postage pricing will be different , so i cannot use weight based shipping or large bulbs will be the same price as small for example.
if any one has any ideas or MODS that i could use , that would be fantastic!

Thank you

What you are talking about are things that you will have to decide in order to cover your self in shipping yet not piss off the customer. It sounds like you really don't need to use shipping based on weight. I would either figure out a flat rate that will average out to cover you in the long run....or tally the cost by number of packages. Most that have light packages just to PER package...or flat rate.

I have a bunch of shipping extensions, one of which may work for you. Feel free to take a look at them here: http://www.getclearthinking.com/shipping-methods

If you're looking to base shipping rates on item size, you might be able to use Volume-Based Shipping to set rates based on the volume of the order.

Thanks Jonathan. Eventually I will learn which extensions you have so I can forward the cattle on....

If you want to stick with weight-based shipping, then why not change the high volume packing product's weight to a higher figure that will match with the higher postal charges?

Otherwise the Individual Product Shipping extension would do the job.
