How to add subcategory images to display in the 'refine search' page?

Hello!
I have Version 3.0.2.0
How can I get the subcategory images to display in the refine search page (when you click on a parent category) instead of the plain bullet links?
I've tried many different solutions from the forum and other website (mostly vqMods) but they were all outdated and incompatible.
