Multi-Stores in a Sub-Domain Environment

Yes, no image (or the image you have posted does not exist anymore)!
Either write what you want or add an image which exists.

I have read over numerous articles and topics on the subject of
multi-stores but have not found a solution to my situation.
Assuming that there is one ... here is my situation.

My main domain is "www.maindomain.net" and is
located under /public_html/

My main opencart domain is "shopping.maindomain.net", is
operating correctly and is located at /shopping.maindomain.net/

My first Multi-Store domain is "shop1.maindomain.net"
and is located at /shop1.maindomain.net/

The basic OpenCart templates have been renamed and updated
where necessary and stored in the appropriate places as "shop1" items.

There appears to be no problem with the "shopping.maindomain.net"
setup for "shop1.maindomain.net" in the
System > Settings > Stores > General and other related tabs.

However, when the URL" shop1.maindomain.net"
is entered into the browser, only "shopping.maindomain.net" is displayed.

It is my understanding that no files are required to be in the
directory for the multi-store domains, such as "shop1.maindomain.net"
but I am not certain that this assumption is correct.

To reiterate, the file structure at present is:
/public_html/"file structure for www.maindomain.net"
/shopping.maindomain.net
/shop1.maindomain.net

Can anyone confirm whether or not this file structure is
suitable for multi-stores or not?
