Per default there is no change of the image when an option is selected.

I have a DROPDOWN IMAGE extension - the image will appear in the dropdown

Usually you add the colour options to the product image itself -
I also have an IMAGE ZOOM with swop - but it is a thumbnail swop not a select swop

The 2nd extension link provided by mona was requested before on the forum on rare occasions but I don't think those requests were ever covered ... it seem this extension date is also recent so that might help.
