The UK government is correct in saying that Microsoft will continue to keep IE6 updated and secure. In fact, the software giant has promised to do so until April 2014.

If the UK gov't is depending on IE6 for security then I see a downfall in your future
When the only thing left to attack with all the IE6 specific attacks is the UK gov't then they are just holding up a big red target

listen, the uk goverment have already deployed the worst online revenue collection service thats ever been invented, where you have to cross your fingers before it lets you log in to file a clients tax return.
Along with their un needed new iXRBL system which means everyone now has to get their head around it and change every type of excel spreadsheet they used for accounting to match the new data submission as its apprently "more Secure".
It doesnt suprise me at all that the uk goverment have also decided they need to keep IE6, because, they just about know how to turn a pc on, let alone upgrade their systems.
You wont have to worry about IE6 attacks on uk goverment systems, because they will probably be down due to overloaded servers anyway

This year's 'short' return had us delving about in arcane Adobe security settings just so we could start work with it - and the fun didn't stop there. IE6 could be the least of our worries..

I was thinking of this ie6/7 problem the other day.
Did anybody actually stop to consider who are those 10%?
Check out the stats and you'll see a large percentage of the people not upgrading will never upgrade!
nothing like $2 XP install DVDs with keys
Also, I am figuring that I'm probably loosing more money by trying to code for those 2 browsers than actually sales lost.
Think about it ... you pay for compatibility to protect 10% of your sales. Which is costing you more?
And, by helping people stay in the dinosaur age you are only adding to the problem.
Not to mention, how much the world looses everyday on support and virus software to support those 2 products.
They were good back in the day but so were cars that got 5 mpg!
Save money and reduce the eco-print!

Yep.. its the same 10% who don't buy things online because they think the internet is a conspiracy and that if you have your wallet next to your keyboard, hackers can put a virus on your computer and steal your credit card numbers based on proximity. If that is the case then definitely it would be worth it.
To be honest, I am not partial in browser coverage since I lived through years of mac os browsers being not supported. Even though M$ made a decent browser for the mac (actually it was better than others) they still didn't even support a majority of their proprietary functions that their SP version enjoyed.
Still, the public should really upgrade to a more modern browser to help save the world money

I doubt state workers are using their inhouse IE6 system to buy online.. I think you are definitely in the minority of people who are willing to bother with ie6 compatibility nowadays.twiggy wrote:

They are not likely to be purchasing items from mine or your store Q but for a general store selling cloth, household good ect then I think it will be important. Agree sapporo it would make life easier but for the moment at least for e-commerce sites I will be supporting IE6 can't rule out that possible 10% of sales before they even reach my store.
The solution is simple really... If website owners would add a script that redirects people using IE6 to a porn site... IE6 could have been killed off long ago. I think I'll add that to the default opencart in the next version
